Fashion vs the World Cup

Gone are the days when we ladies are supposed to head on out shopping while the World Cup is on – no these days I think you’ll find just as many of us crowding round the big screens in the pub or watching it at home.

It’s interesting to see then, a World Cup based fashion promotion going on over at Very.co.uk. The team over at Very have gone and created a different style for each of the World Cup countries and have pulled together a variety of different outfits and accessories which showcase the best of the nation’s fashion!

Oh, and that’s not all – they’ve pitted all the World Cup looks against each other in a fashion face-off and the winners will go on to the quarter and then semi finals and then the top two countries will fight it out for the top spot and will be crowned the most stylish country.

I’ve checked out the British look – it’s pretty good and they’re already through to the quarter finals (let’s hope that they have the same luck on the pitch, eh?) and we’ve got a festival/retro cool look and we beat the USA hands down in the fashion stakes.

Up this week it’s a rather pink affair with the Netherlands facing-off against Japan in the style stakes. Netherlands have got a ‘forever floral’ theme and although there’s not a tulip in sight there is plenty of floral prints and bright, pretty accessories. I love the blue playsuit, which looks fantastic teamed with nude peeptoe heels and the flared denim skirt with a floral trim.

Japan is embracing their kooky street style, missing prim, feminine shapes with bright pinks and cute cartoons. This is definitely one for the super girly girls but the mix of subtle tones and big character really works!

I’ve put in my vote – for Japan (it’s the shoes that win it for me!) so if you fancy a different kind of World Cup battle then you can vote for your favourite looks over at Very.co.uk now. The England look will be up against South Africa in the next fixture so make sure you lend your support!’
