Manchester United are up to second place on the Premier League table after the win over Newcastle United in their week 25 clash at the Theatre of Dreams on Sunday night. The Red Devils had been demoted from second to third position earlier on Sunday following the win recorded by Leicester City over Aston Villa. Leicester City and Manchester United started the weekend on 46 points but the latter was in second place as a result of the superior goal difference. Leicester City defeated Aston Villa 2-1 away from home to move three points above Manchester United into second place. Leicester City raced into a 2-0 lead at the half-time break courtesy the goals from the Three Lions of England duo James Maddison and Harvey Barnes. Hosts Aston Villa pulled one back in the second half through new signing Bertrand Traore to setup a nervy finish for the Foxes. In the end, they were able to hold on for an impressive victory to leapfrog Manchester United into second place.

Solskjaer wants more goals from Marcus Rashford this season

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is expecting Marcus Rashford to kick on from the previous season and contribute more goals in the Premier League. The England international managed just 10 goals in the top-flight during the course of the 2018/19 campaign, but Solskjaer believes the forward can show an improvement this term with the additional experience gained.


Speaking to Sky Sports, he said: “I think Marcus is developing really well. He’s growing, you see his stature now, his body. He’s capable of playing more this year. He struggled with his ankle last season, so this year I expect more from him. But the whole squad, we’re fitter, we’re stronger. You can see in that second half we are more than capable of lasting games. He’s getting fitter and is a year older. We’ve had six weeks to work on a shape we want to look like and he’s exceptional when there’s space in behind.”

Marcus Rashford aiming for consistency after bagging Player of the Month award

Manchester United striker Marcus Rashford is aiming for consistency with his performances after bagging the Premier League Player of the Month award for January. The England international has witnessed a change in fortunes since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer took temporary charge of the club in December and during this period, he has amassed six goals from just eight league matches.

Due to this, he managed to outclass a number of top players including Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero to the monthly gong and speaking after receiving the award, he was pleased to have helped the club in the progress. He added that consistency remains key during the forthcoming months with the Red Devils aiming to propel to the top four in the Premier League.

Marcus Rashford taking motivation from Cristiano Ronaldo

Manchester United youngster Marcus Rashford has revealed that Cristiano Ronaldo is his source of inspiration as he looks to become a better footballer. The England international has already made a positive mark during his two-and-a-half seasons with the United first-team but he has yet to establish himself as a regular from the starting lineup.

In a report covered by The Mail, Rashford has once more praised his idol Ronaldo, who has maintained his goalscoring ability despite the advancing age, he said: “He keeps making these moments which are unbelievable and there is no better sort of motivation than him. [Is he the best in the game right now?] I’d say so. He is not only maintaining it but he keeps hitting new heights. “To get to that level it takes years and years of doing the same things in training every day.”
