Rio Ferdinand names Daniel James as Manchester United’s most influential player

Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has said that Daniel James has been the Red Devils’ most influential player during the opening stages of the campaign. The Wales international was the least high-profile signing made by United during the summer transfer window but he has already made an impressive contribution in the attack with three goals in the Premier League.

Speaking to TalkSPORT, Ferdinand said that no one expected James to make a quick impression but he has certainly become the most influential player within the squad, he told: “I don’t think they [United] expected what they have got from Daniel James so early on in his Manchester United career. He’s probably been their most influential player so far, so what does that really say about that squad? You’re buying someone from Swansea who was probably brought in as someone who is going to flourish at a later date. However, he’s been forced to the forefront as their main man in the team at the moment. That really says where Manchester United are at this minute in time.”
James was named the United Player of the Month for August after bagging three goals for the club but he has since failed to replicate the performance. Nonetheless, the attacker cannot be blamed for the same, considering many of the senior attacking players have likewise struggled to make an impact on the league proceedings.

United started the campaign with a tremendous 4-0 triumph over Chelsea at Old Trafford but they have since struggled for goals and have failed to score more than once in any game. As a result, that has genuinely hampered their league form and they are currently just two points ahead of the drop zone. The Red Devils are currently winless in the past three league matches and the run could potentially extend as they face a tough challenge against Liverpool after the international break.
