ARSENAL BATTLE MANCHESTER UNITED FOR CORRENTIN TOLISSO

Arsenal could battle Manchester United for Corentin Tolisso, who is available on a free transfer after leaving Bayern Munich. According to Fichajes, Arsenal and Manchester United could wage a battle for Corentin Tolisso’s signature. The French midfielder is available for a free transfer after his contract with Bayern Munich expired, and he remains an attractive option for many other clubs as well.

Corentin Tolisso was primed for a massive career when he broke through the ranks at Lyon. He was considered one of the top talents to come out of the French giant’s academy, but his move to Bayern Munich has not gone to plan. After experiencing a brilliant debut campaign in Bavaria, the remaining four seasons were injury-ravaged. During this period, Tolisso failed to play even half the Bundesliga games in each term. In fact, in his five years at the club, the Frenchman only started 40 times, which was not the initial plan.

RAPHINHA TRANSFER INTEREST ENERGES AS TEN HAG PLANS CLEAROUT

Manchester United have reportedly showed an interest in Leeds United winger Raphinha, while manager-in-waiting Erik ten Hag is said to be planning a revamp of the squad. In many ways for Manchester United fans, the 2021-22 season has been over for a long time. The Red Devils were last in action a fortnight ago, when they were hammered 4-0 by Brighton & Hove Albion. The embarrassing nature of the performance and disappointment of the season overall means that plenty have understandably checked out.

United will take on Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park in their 2021-22 finale and with manager-in-waiting Erik ten Hag set to watch on from the stands, it’s going to be intriguing to see what kind of performance the players turn in.

NO SANCHO, MAGUIRE FOR CHELSEA GAME

Jadon Sancho and Harry Maguire have both been ruled out of the Premier League clash between Manchester United and Chelsea on Thursday. Both Maguire and Sancho won’t be available for Manchester United when they play hosts to Chelsea in a rescheduled league game. The game was brought forward due to the FA Cup final commitment on the part of outgoing European champions Chelsea. The Blues made the FA Cup final after beating London rivals Crystal Palace 2-0 earlier this month thanks to the second half goals from the England international duo of Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Mason Mount and will face Merseyside giants Liverpool in the bid to win a first FA Cup title since the 2018 edition.

Sancho and Maguire were ruled out of the Chelsea game by interim Manchester United manager Ralf Rangnick during his pre-match press conference on Wednesday ahead of the game. The two England internationals were in the Manchester United squad that lost 3-1 at Arsenal in the league last weekend with Nuno Tavares, Bukayo Saka and Granit Xhaka getting the goals for the hosts, while five-time Ballond’or winner Cristiano Ronaldo scored the only goal of the match for the Red Devils. Ex-Borussia Dortmund and Manchester City winger Sancho played the whole game, while former Hull City and Leicester City centre back Maguire was left on the bench for the entire duration of the game following the bomb threats he received some days earlier.

HAALAND SET FOR BIG TRANSFER DECISION

Manchester United target ErlingHaaland will make a decision over his future in the next two weeks. This is according to Daily Mail reporter Mike Keegan which stated that the Borussia Dortmund striker is keen to sort out his future in the coming weeks amidst the interest from a lot of big teams on the European football stage including Manchester United. Apart from Manchester United, Premier League champions Manchester City and Real Madrid have also been linked with a move for the young striker. Various reports in the British media have stated that English champions Manchester City are leading the race for Haaland.

Manchester City have often played without a recognised striker over the course of the past two seasons mainly due to the injury woes of retired Argentine international Sergio Aguero. The constant injury to Aguero forced Manchester City to constantly play without a striker and they continued in that fashion when Aguero returned till he left the club last summer after an excellent spell at the club. The Premier League leaders were unable to sign a replacement for Aguero when he left last summer and they continued playing without a striker for this season.

ARSENAL TO BOUNCE BACK AGAINST VILLA?

Arsenal were on a very good run in the Premier League before they were stopped by Liverpool in their rescheduled match this week as their bid for a top-four spot continues. The Gunners had gone six games without a defeat in the league before they took on the Reds at the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday night. It must also be pointed out that five of the six Premier League games were wins.

North London giants Arsenal have a lot of work to do if they are to finish in the top four ahead of the other teams in the race. Apart from the Gunners, the other teams in the top-four race include Manchester United, West Ham United, Tottenham Hotspur and Wolverhampton Wanderers.

SPURS EYEING THIRD WIN AT UNITED

Tottenham Hotspur have been able to bounce back from the disappointment of losing four out of five Premier League games by winning the next two against Leeds United and Merseyside team Everton. The North Londoners turned to Italian manager Antonio Conte when NunoEspirito Santo was fired after a poor run of results in the league and he began his managerial reign at the club with an unbeaten league run which ended courtesy the 2-0 defeat at the hands of London rivals Chelsea. Conte was handed his first Premier League defeat as the Tottenham Hotspur manager by the Blues thanks to the second half goals from Hakim Ziyech and Thiago Silva.

The away defeat against Chelsea started the run of three successive league defeats for Tottenham Hotspur. Defeat in the Chelsea game was followed by home defeats to Southampton and Wolverhampton Wanderers. Saints scored twice in the space of two second half minutes through Che Adams and Mohammed Elyounoussi to secure a memorable 3-2 away win over Spurs. Son Heung-Min had earlier scored in the second half to give Spurs the lead for the second time after the first half strike from Southampton striker Armando Broja cancelled out the own goal from teammate Jan Bednarek for the opening goal of the game. The 2-0 home defeat to Wolverhampton Wanderers made it three straight league defeats for Tottenham Hotspur with Raul Jimenez and Leander Dendoncker getting the goals for Wolves in the first half.

BRENTFORDLOSING RUN CONTINUES AGAINST UNITED

Premier League newcomers Brentford are presently on a losing run in the league after the home loss to Manchester United in a rescheduled game played at the Brentford Community Stadium on Wednesday night. Brentford have earned a lot of plaudits for their progressive football in their first season in the Premier League having sealed promotion via the playoffs at the end of the English Championship last season. The Bees will need to arrest their losing league run to avoid being dragged into the interesting relegation fight at the wrong end of the Premier League log.

RONALDO CLOSE GAP ON SALAH, OTHERS

Manchester United attacker Cristiano Ronaldo has designs on the Golden Boot race in the Premier League this season but he’s far from the top of the leading goalscorers and he has a lot of work to do to catch up with the likes of Mohamed Salah (Liverpool) and Diogo Jota (Liverpool).

To this effect, Solskjaer is expected to be in the Manchester United dugout for the game at Watford when Premier League football resumes next week.
