Brentford have earned a lot of plaudits for their progressive football in their first season in the Premier League having sealed promotion via the playoffs at the end of the English Championship last season. The Bees will need to arrest their losing league run to avoid being dragged into the interesting relegation fight at the wrong end of the Premier League log.

The Bees started this year on a positive note after coming from behind to beat Aston Villa 2-1 at home on the Premier League scene. However, they have lost three games in the league since the Villa game starting with the heavy defeat suffered at Southampton. As a matter of fact, Brentford have now conceded ten goals in those three league games.

Jan Bendnarek, Alvaro Fernandez (own goal), Armando Broja and Che Adams all scored for Southampton on their way to a comfortable 4-1 home win over Brentford who got their only goal through VitalyJanelt. Brentford then made it two losses in a row in the league when they were beaten 3-0 at title chasers Liverpool through goals from Fabinho, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and second half substitute Takumi Minamino.

Brentford extended their losing run to three successive league games with the defeat to Manchester United at home. Manchester United were lacklustre in the first half but the Bees were unable to take advantage. Manchester United became a different team after the half-time break and went on to win the game through the goals from the trio of Anthony Elanga, Mason Greenwood and Marcus Rashford who came on as a substitute in the second half. Ivan Toney was the recipient of the only Brentford goal.
