UNITED DUO TO RETURN FOR SPURS

Embattled Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has revealed that the French duo of Anthony Martial and Raphael Varane could return to the Premier League squad for the trip to London to face Tottenham Hotspur.

Solskjaer is under pressure after his Manchester United side were thumped 5-0 at home by arch rivals Liverpool when the two traditional English teams battled each other last weekend. In his post-match press conference after the Liverpool debacle, Solskjaer stated that Varane and Martial are progressing well in their respective recoveries from injury and that they could be in contention for the Spurs game this weekend.

Manchester United can’t respond to the Liverpool result immediately as they are not in Carabao Cup action this week after they were dumped out of the competition in the last round. The Red Devils won’t be in action for the fourth round games on Tuesday and Wednesday this week afterthey were eliminated in the third round by West Ham United last month. Argentine player Manuel Lanzini scored the only goal of the game in the colours of the Hammers. His first half strike was enough to take West Ham into the next round.

Solskjaer and his players will have the chance to respond to the 5-0 thrashing received at the hands of Liverpool when they take on a Spurs team who also lost their last league game. The North Londoners were beaten thanks to a second half header from Jamaican attacker Michail Antonio.

For the game last weekend, Liverpool attacker Mohamed Salah was the star of the show as he scored three goals to lead the Reds to an emphatic win. The Egyptian international star has now scored in his last ten matches in all competitions to take his tally to 15 goals. He has ten league goals.
