Manchester United vs Arsenal – The Battles of Old Trafford

Currently, two of the most prominent rivals of Manchester United are Manchester City and Liverpool, partly due to their proximity, and their more recent positions among the top four teams in the Premier League. Matches between any of these teams usually raises high expectations among fans during the season.

However, a decade or two ago, precisely around 1990, Liverpool and Man. City were not the main threat to Alex Ferguson’s powerful team. The main opposition to Ferguson’s title hopes came from Arsenal. That is why some of the most explosive matches that have ever being played at Old Trafford have been between United and the Gunners.

At this time of year, neither club are typically backed to mix it with the movers and shakers at the top end of the table, but the 2015/16 season could prove a different story after some significant transfer activity at both Selhurst Park and the Britannia Stadium.

Stoke achieved their record points total last season, thrashing Liverpool 6-1 on the final day to secure ninth place and a total of 54 points. Mark Hughes’ side have made themselves an attractive prospect in next season’s Premier League betting after signing defender Philipp Wollscheid from Bayer Leverkusen and goalkeeper Jakob Haugaard from the Danish Superliga.

Swansea’s Emirates success offers Wembley hope

The FA Cup final comes up on Saturday 30th May at Wembley. This year’s showpiece finale to the English season has been falsely pigeonholed already a couple of times during the season.

When Steven Gerrard announced his decision to leave Liverpool at the end of the season, the fact the cup final happened to be on the occasion of the Reds legend’s 35th birthday had many subscribing to the theory it was “simply meant to be” for the Anfield men.

Tim Sherwood’s rejuvenated Aston Villa didn’t collect that script and so they duly dumped Gerrard and Liverpool out in the last four.

Thereafter, it has been Arsenal’s trophy to lose.
The holders, a team that have been growing in confidence and performance since the New Year, facing a team that as recently as February they thumped 5-0.

Will Middlesbrough derail Norwich’s promotion hopes?

With just three games remaining in the 2014/2015 Championship season, the race for the top two is set to go down to the wire in what has developed into the more dramatic and closest ever finish in league history.

No fewer than four teams have a realistic chance of securing their place in the Premier League, with just two points separating first from fourth in a wonderful climax which could be decided on who holds their nerve and does not slip up in their remaining fixture.

FLETCHER BACK ON SONG

As Darren Fletcher’s career with Manchester United progressed, the Scottish midfielder was getting fewer and fewer playing time in Old Trafford. In the previous 3 seasons of Darren Fletcher, he was able to get less than 30 appearances and the player eventually decided to continue his career by making a move to another club where his chances on getting into the main team are higher.

On February of 2015, Fletcher signed for West Bromwich Albion on a free transfer and has even turned into the captain of the Premier League club.

Picking out a possible value bet between Arsenal and Manchester United at the moment is not an easy task as there are less than three points separating the two clubs. One way to pick a winner between the two is to review the stats using an online betting assistant.

POCHETTINO DESERVES CREDIT

It’s Harry Kane who is receiving most of the plaudits for Tottenham Hotspur’s current situation in the Premier League and the young man deserves that, but, the Spurs fans must not forget the influence of the manager Mauricio Pochettino.

The Argentinean has been the key man behind this turnaround at White Hart Lane.
There were rumours circling around at the start of his tenure that his training methods were not being particularly liked by some of the Tottenham players. But, that did not affect Pochettino. He knew what he was doing and which way he wanted the Spurs to play.

Will England conquer Europe?

Three of the four Premier League teams who embarked on their European quest have made it to the last 16 of the Champions League but who, if any, will be will be crowned champions of the continent this season?

It was almost a perfect four out of four for England’s representatives in this prestigious competition but Liverpool failed to beat Swiss champions Basel at Anfield in their last group game.

That means another chapter of Liverpool’s esteemed history in Europe’s premier club competition will have to wait at least another season to be written and we are left with Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester City to fly the flag for St George.

Saints Slide Worsens

In the last few weeks Southampton have endured a depressing slide down the Premier League table, going from Champions League contenders in early November to Europa League hopefuls ahead of the Christmas period.

After five games without a win in the league, including four straight defeats, Tuesday’s Capital One Cup quarter-final against Sheffield United should have provided a welcome relief. But it ended in further heartbreak for the Saints fans.

Strong Side
Bramall Lane was never going to be an easy place to go but Ronald Koeman had every right to expect a reaction from his team following their 1-0 defeat at Burnley last weekend.
